JingXi Yin Yoga is a 60-minute practice built around longer-held, mostly floor-based postures, with time and space to settle into each shape. We begin quietly, noticing the breath and allowing the body and mind to arrive before gradually moving into the practice.
Rather than flowing continuously from one posture to another, we spend longer in each shape, using stillness, breath and support to explore what is present without striving for a particular depth. Cushions, blankets or blocks can be used to help you find a position in which you can soften and stay. Between postures, there is often time to pause and notice before moving on.
As the class progresses, movement becomes increasingly quiet. Meditation and periods of silence are woven naturally into the practice before we finish with time to rest, breathe and simply notice what remains.
A yoga mat, comfortable warm clothing and a little space around you. Cushions, pillows or folded blankets are useful for support, and yoga blocks and bolsters can be helpful if you have them — but specialist equipment isn't essential.
As Yin involves spending longer in stillness, you may also like to have an extra layer or blanket nearby to keep warm.
No previous yoga experience is needed. You are always welcome to adjust a shape, add support, come out of a posture or rest whenever you need to.
A yoga class should be about the experience, how it makes you feel, not how you compare to the next person.
In its own way, Yin Yoga – like the other three JingXi Yoga paths - points towards the same experience of inhabiting the present moment with kindness and awareness.
I don't teach yoga as a collection of poses. I teach movement as a journey. Every class flows naturally towards stillness, where relaxation, breath and quiet awareness become the real peak of the practice.
Come as you are.
Move with the breath.
Notice what changes — and perhaps what was there all along.
We all bring the flow of our own lives with us to a class. One day, we may arrive feeling light. On another, we may arrive carrying stress, uncertainty or tiredness.
We may not have had time to notice.
For a little while, we step onto the mat or sit in the chair together. We move, breathe and pause. Not to become someone different, but to become more aware of who we are in this moment.
Sometimes we notice ease or resistance. Sometimes gratitude or frustration appears. Neither is a mistake; both belong.
Yoga doesn't ask us to reject one experience in favour of another. It simply invites us to observe them with honesty and kindness.
When the class ends, life continues. The breath continues. The awareness we've found doesn't stay in the room. It goes with us. It's always there, quietly waiting, whenever we choose to return to it.
Yin offers us an unusual invitation: to stop trying to get somewhere. Explore how stillness, breath and noticing shape the JingXi Yin practice.
There are different ways to explore JingXi Yin Yoga. Choose a single class, begin with a trial, travel through an eight-class Journey, or make Yin Yoga part of your Evening Calm practice.
Eight connected 60-minute classes, giving the practice space to develop and unfold from week to week.
A complete 60-minute practice in itself. Each Excursion offers its own theme and experience, with no previous JingXi class required.
A quieter 30-minute evening practice through Settling Waters and Quietening Skies. Join a single class whenever it suits you, or practise more regularly with the Evening Calm Membership.
New to JingXi Yin Yoga? A trial class offers a simple way to experience the practice before deciding where you would like to go next
