Chair Yoga

Flow into Stillness while seated

Accessible movement that builds confidence, mobility and strength.

Like still ponds with deep power, Chair Yoga offers:

  • Accessibility first

  • Seated and supported standing options

  • Confidence through successful movement

  • Functional mobility for everyday life

What you can expect from a JingXi Chair Yoga class

JingXi Chair Yoga is a 30-minute practice using the chair as a supportive part of the class. We begin by arriving, noticing the breath and gently preparing the body before gradually exploring a wider range of movement.

Much of the practice can be enjoyed seated, with supported standing movements offered where appropriate. We explore mobility, balance, strength and coordination through accessible movements that flow naturally together. You are always welcome to adapt a movement, remain seated, pause or rest.

As the class progresses, movement gradually gives way to quieter practice. We finish with time to settle, breathe and notice how you feel — allowing the class to flow naturally into stillness.

What you'll need for JingXi Chair Yoga

A stable armless chair without wheels, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, and a little space around you. If we use any additional simple props for a particular class, you'll know beforehand.

No previous yoga experience is needed. Come as you are and practice in the way that works for you.

How Chair Yoga fits into the JingXi Philosophy

In its own way, Chair Yoga – like the other three JingXi Yoga paths - points towards the same experience of inhabiting the present moment with kindness and awareness.
I don't teach yoga as a collection of poses. I teach movement as a journey. Every class flows naturally towards stillness, where relaxation, breath and quiet awareness become the real peak of the practice.

A yoga class should be about the experience, how it makes you feel, not how you compare to the next person.

Come as you are.
Move with the breath.
Notice what changes — and perhaps what was there all along.

The Practice of Noticing

We all bring the flow of our own lives with us to a class. One day, we may arrive feeling light. On another, we may arrive carrying stress, uncertainty or tiredness.

We may not have had time to notice.

For a little while, we step onto the mat or sit in the chair together. We move, breathe and pause. Not to become someone different, but to become more aware of who we are in this moment.

Sometimes we notice ease or resistance. Sometimes gratitude or frustration appears. Neither is a mistake; both belong.

Yoga doesn't ask us to reject one experience in favour of another. It simply invites us to observe them with honesty and kindness.

When the class ends, life continues. The breath continues. The awareness we've found doesn't stay in the room. It goes with us. It's always there, quietly waiting, whenever we choose to return to it.

Practising Chair Yoga with JingXi

There are different ways to explore JingXi Chair Yoga. Choose a single class, begin with a trial or travel through an eight-class Journey.

Journeys

Eight connected 30-minute classes, giving the practice space to develop and unfold from week to week.

Excursions

A complete 30-minute practice in itself. Each Excursion offers its own theme and experience, with no previous JingXi class required.
