Clear Sky 8-class Journey — Practising with what appears

A clear sky doesn't always mean a cloudless one: clouds gather and disperse, the horizon softens, rain arrives and a breeze moves through. Sometimes the moon is visible; sometimes it is hidden. And through all of that, there is still sky.

Clear Sky is JingXi Yoga's first eight-class Journey — an invitation to explore movement, breath and stillness without needing the practice to feel the same each time.

We begin by finding some sense of ground in Rooting the Sky. From there, the horizon softens, movement begins to weave and the practice responds to rain, breeze and cloud. Later in the Journey, the pace begins to quiet, until the final class becomes simply Noticing.

The eight classes are:

  1. Rooting the Sky

  2. Softening the Horizon

  3. Weaving Through the Clouds

  4. After the Rain, the Earth Receives

  5. Swaying with the Breeze

  6. Welcoming the Clouds

  7. Moon Behind the Clouds

  8. Noticing

There isn't a destination hidden at the end of those eight classes. Instead, the Journey gives us time to become familiar with practice itself: how movement feels on one day and another, how the breath changes, where effort appears, where space becomes available, and what we notice when we stop asking the body to reproduce yesterday's experience.

One Journey, different ways to travel

Clear Sky can be explored through Chair Yoga, Desk Yoga, Hatha Yoga or Yin Yoga. These aren't four versions trying to arrive at exactly the same physical shapes. Each path explores the same underlying landscape in its own way.

A Hatha practice might explore a theme through standing movement and flowing transitions. Yin might encounter it through time, stillness and sensation. Chair and Desk Yoga offer their own movement possibilities and perspectives.

The theme remains shared, but the experience doesn't have to be. That's part of the idea behind a JingXi Journey: participation rather than perfection.

You don't need to be flexible enough, experienced enough or particularly good at being still. You begin with the movement, breath and attention available to you that day. And perhaps, over eight classes, you notice something you wouldn't have noticed in just one.

The Journey begins

Clear Sky Journeys begin next week, with classes from Thursday through Sunday.

Eight classes give us room that a single class cannot: room for a practice to develop, for themes to return in different forms, and for your own experience to become part of the Journey.

There may be clear skies. There will probably be clouds too. Neither is a problem.
